IFTTT is a bit hit and miss on providers and will it last?
Given the news about shut down of other cloud services from providers like NEST group, leaving people with bricked home hubs only 18 months old. And a sudden announcement from IFTTT themselves as they try and monetise their services
Has anyone though about providing some sort of integration with these guys:
https://home-assistant.io/
Nothing to do with me personally but I've been looking at installing this on my synology NAS so that my home hub is:
1: inside my home network
2: controls any sort of peripheral including my own that I build to my specification
3: not dependant on cloud, but can connect and interact with it as required
4: 'owned' by me and can be modified by me and expanded as required
5: once stable can just be left to run
This looks like a much better long term solution as there is a real feel that IoT and 'free' cloud based services may not be viable long term as groups like IFTTT suddenly try and get money from their hard work (understandable, but why cut off your first free customers by killing the old access methods and forcing new API on them?)
I understand this sort of task is a lot to ask but if you can provide us with some APIs and a stronger framework than you web based app builder I'm sure people can do it for themselves?

At this moment we are intensively working on SmartThings native integration to make LaMetric a Smart Home Display
and also working on Local API for notifications, designed for Smart Home systems.
And in future you can expect that integration with other SmartThings services will be possible too.
So LaMetric will improve your experience of using the smart home systems.

Hello,
Is it possible, using the Google Assistant SDK, to turn the Lametric in a Chromecast/Google Assistant gear?
Thanks!

Hello I tried to use the home assistant integration. There sadly is no option to use the alarm as a trigger for automations. I also did not find any way to set up a custom trigger (like IFTTT Button). The API does not provide an obvious way to GET the alarm time. I was able to trigger my automation in HA with IFTTT, but it is a cloud solution now and I have to pay them every year. Is there any improvement to be expected on this topic, or is there a solution and I just did not find it? It does not make any sense to me to use a cloud service with a local device that can be integrated in home assistant. Also the home assistant integration for IFTTT does not seem to work, (that might be an error on my end as well, I'll post here anyway). I now have to expose a webhook. Really frustrating.

I looked about utilizing the integration with home assistant. Unfortunately, automations cannot be triggered by the alert. There was also no option to create a custom trigger (a la the IFTTT Button) that I could locate.
There is no clear method in the API to GET the alarm time. wordle today
Hi, short update on my journey 6 months later, if anyone wonders: I just checked again, my understanding at this time is, that there are two ways to trigger an alarm in homeassistant. First option is to use IFTTT and a webhook (cloud based third party solution). Second option is to use the LaMetric cloud API (also cloud based, I guess IFTTT uses this solution for it's service as well). This means, with the standard homeassistant integration or the local device API, there is no possibility to GET the alarm time which has ben set on the clock itself. If someone want's to use LaMetric locally as an alarm clock which triggers an automation, this is not possible. I am using the IFTTT Button app and a webhook at the moment to trigger an automation. Not really stable (IFTTT just stops working from time to time). Also not a fan of an exposed webhook or that I have to use the cloud API. Makes no sense to me. I'll probably ditch for another alarm clock that supports local communication, but I did not find anything looking as nice so far. Would be great if I'm wrong or overlooked something.

Edit: Not IFTTT button app, but the IFTTT - LaMetric integration, that uses the alarm as trigger and then triggers my webhook.

Hello,
Please check the Home Assistant integration - https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/lametric/. Thanks for the feedback for using the alarm as a trigger.
